Introduction to Katie Wherley
Katie began her riding career at the age of seven, while attending summer camp at Butler School. She then joined Seneca Valley Pony Club, from which she graduated with an "A" rating. While in Pony Club, she participated in Nationals three times, once as a member of Capital Region Dressage Team and twice as a member of a Combined Training Team - both of those times she achieved the top individual score.
Katie began competing in USCTA recognized horse trials at the age of 12, riding at the Preliminary level by age 14 and Intermediate at age 20. She completed her first One-Star Three-Day Event at Kentucky Horse Park in 1998 at age 19 with a 'double clear.' She has one horse competing at the Advanced level and is also training several younger horses at various levels of eventing, one of which she owns, the others belong to clients.
Even when she went to college, Katie took along two horses, one to train as a hunter/jumper and her primary event horse. Yet she still managed to graduate magna cum laude in three years with a BS in Sports Medicine and ACE certification as a personal trainer. She feels that, while she is not currently working in her degree field, her coursework in anatomy and physiology has enabled her to better understand her horses and their training needs
